When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.

I debuted this Syaoran cosplay at FanimeCon 2009 as part of a group with LunarLoop Cosplay, and also wore the costume at the NorCal Summer Gathering in August 2009.
I spent months on this cosplay from the end of December 2008 when I first started gathering materials to the end of March 2009 when I completed the prop. And I obsessed over every aspect of it, more so than usual, so I'm going to go into more detail in describing the design. COSTUME The goggles are handmade from Super Sculpey with added sunglasses lenses to darken the slits. They are adjustable at the back, so they can be worn on my head or around my neck as I see fit. The goggles are also fitted to the strap with a button-hinge so they can swing around on the strap, depending on where I want to place them. The cloak is made of faux-silk, has tucked and topstitched edges on the inside, and is burned by candle to create the torn appearance. It straps around my back underneath the vest, which keeps it in place. The vest is made of cotton duckcloth, is fully lined in black satin, and is detailed with topstitched bias piping. The gloves are bought vintage leather driving gloves with added strap detailing. The pants are cotton twill, slightly personally tint-dyed for extra color, and are re-pieced and topstitched according to the design, with self-patterned pouch pockets. All belts and straps are custom-made of brown or tan faux suede and edgestitched. There are eight silver buckles on this costume: six on the pants, one at the front of the chest-belt, and one unseen at the back of the chest-belt: all buckles are fully functional. All buttons are hand-painted black over silver. The bootstraps are removable and attachable by elastic straps. PROP The Chronos Staff took about 8 days total for my father and me to make. The shapes were cut out of plywood with a saber saw, sanded, and the ridging was carved out with a router. There are about 2,000 tick marks on the wood, and each tick mark is individually etched out by hand using a small craft woodburning tool. The staff is a hardwood rod which was also carved out using a router, and all eight separate pieces are held together with wood glue and screws. Details were added with clay, and the entire prop was spraypainted in gold, ticked by hand in black paint, and distressed. It is also able to fold slightly and the wheel is removable, for ease in storage in transportation. The cool dual-focus photography is by Lynn Truong of Bui Photography.
